We often joke that we’re part matchmaker, part rescue—because finding the right dog for the right home is all about chemistry. While every applicant may offer a loving environment, we’re always honest when a particular dog’s personality might not be the best fit. Some pups are too active for older dogs, others prefer quiet companionship over play, and some just aren’t the cuddly type. Our goal is always the same: to match each dog with the home where they’ll truly thrive.
With Sprocket, we absolutely nailed it.
Ron and Debie Harrison of Allen, TX—longtime adopters and beloved members of our rescue family—recently lost their sweet Coco (aka Clara). Their hearts were open, and when they met Sprocket, it was instant affection. Still, they wanted to be sure he’d mesh well with their other dog, Lucy, so they took him home for a trial.
Meet & Greets at the Sanctuary are a great start, but dogs often show different sides of themselves in a home setting. We were happy to support the trial—and even when Sprocket came down with a cold and needed vet care, Ron and Debie didn’t hesitate. Sprocket went to the vet for medications but they wanted to care for him themselves, and that spoke volumes.
The best moment? Getting the text that they wanted to make it official.
Sprocket—now Hank—is the sweetest little guy, full of playful energy. We just hope his new water bowls are heavy enough to stay put… he’s got a knack for turning them into yard toys!

About Sprocket:

We took in these two dogs yesterday, both 20 months old we are told. I am assuming they are siblings but who really knows. Story is the owner is having seizures that are getting worse and family members put these two outside. Eva scrubbed them yesterday and removed their many, many flea.

Onward and upward we will get them spayed and neutered and all taken care of and find a new home for them both.
