Current Location:
Adoption Date:
Adopted by: Angela Palma
Latest Update:

At the beginning of May, Stewie joined our rescue under a bit of mistaken identity at the shelter—and he’s been with us ever since. From the start, we knew his skin condition meant he’d be with us for a while, but we also knew he was in the best hands. What we didn’t expect was just how charming and social this sweet boy would be! Stewie quickly became the unofficial social director of the sanctuary, getting along with every dog he met and winning hearts with his easygoing personality.

Nothing ever seemed to faze him—he simply went about his day, happily playing with the other pups whenever the mood struck. He caught the eye of many potential adopters, but in the end, we knew Angela Palma and her family were the perfect match. Her parents had previously adopted Kanga, and seeing the love they share with their pets gave us full confidence that Stewie was heading to a home just as wonderful.
Now renamed Rocket—after the beloved character from Guardians of the Galaxy—he’s ready for his next chapter. Just like Rocket’s journey from a tough past to becoming part of a loving team, Stewie will thrive with the support of his new family and his two furbaby siblings.
Happy life, Rocket! We can’t wait to see all the joy your future holds.

5/3/25
We had our heads spinning this afternoon trying to figure out what happened here.
Hang tight I will do my best to explain it, because it took a good 30 minutes on the phone to figure it out.
We were sent the pictures yesterday of this dog in horrible, horrible condition, the paperwork sent with the photo was a dog that had been in the shelter for 2 months and tested positive for distemper 1 out of 4 times. We had to find a place for this dog not at the sanctuary so Millie agreed to take him. We sent Courtney all the way out to Fort Worth to pick him up and when she picked him up he didn’t look the same, and we thought boy did we get photos of a dog in terrible shape but after 2 months in the shelter on antibiotics he looks better now??? We certainly did not know but off Courtney went all the way to Millies house to drop off this boy who looked much better.
About an hour later the shelter calls and says we have the wrong dog and the dog that is in horrible shape is still there. We are like what the hell is going on?
I called the shelter to talk to the person in charge to see if we can figure out what the story is. This is what we learned, the dog that doesn’t have horrible skin and is now at Millie’s house is in fact the dog that has been at the shelter for 2 months and tested positive for distemper one out of 4 times.
But….the dog with the horrible skin was picked up yesterday as a stray and was being released without a stray hold because of his medical condition. Someone made an error and sent us the paperwork for the distemper dog with the photo of the bad skin dog.
We knew we had to go back and get the really sick boy, so Courtney jumps back in the car and drives all the way out to Forth Worth to pick him up. He will stay at the sanctuary while we get him healthy as he has no positive tests for distemper.
The boy with the bad skin is named Stewie. The boy who has tested positive for distemper one time and has healthy skin will be named Hitch, he will stay with Millie while we isolate him and test him again for distemper, we are so hoping he had a false positive, and we can help get him out of isolation and find him a new life.
Stewie will start at the vet on Monday and will need a very, very long time to recover
When, do you guys have that all straight?
