Sugar was surrendered to Dog Ranch Rescue along with Blue. Blue found her family recently, and now it was Sugar’s turn. Richard and Julie Smith had reached out about a few different dogs — not because they were particular about looks or breed, but because they wanted to find the right fit for their family and for Maggie, their 9‑year‑old Boxer. They’ve adopted from several rescues over the years, and this time it was Dog Ranch Rescue’s opportunity to help them find the perfect match for Maggie.
Sugar’s medical needs gave them pause at first, but they decided to come meet her — and she worked her magic immediately. Emma was there to walk them through her medical history so they felt fully informed, with no surprises once she came home. Together, they created a plan to follow up with their vet, and by the next day, they were ready to make it official.
We’ve said it before — we said it about Blue, too — but Sugar is truly a gem. She curled right into their laps during the meet‑and‑greet, and that was all it took. She’ll keep her name, Sugar, since she knows it well, though they’ll likely call her “Shug” for short.
Sugar, your new life is filled with love, comfort, and a family who chose you wholeheartedly. You’ve found your place, and from here on out, you’ll only know home.
About Sugar:
Owner surrenders arrived yesterday, both of them with hematomas in their ears, due to ear infection, yeast, allergies and or all of the above. The owner cannot afford to care for them and sadly had to surrender to get them the help they will need, no doubt it will be ongoing, as I can speak pretty easily about dogs with allergies the time and money it takes to keep them healthy.
Both are dog friendly, kid friendly and their vetting will begin first thing tomorrow.
