About Sweet Caroline:
Last but not least this girl was listed in the catalog and we hoped we could get her but we just weren’t sure. She’s a chocolate merle Cocker Spaniel, and that color is all the rage but look at her birthdate.. 3/5/12
Yes she is 9 years old and yes she’s lived 9 years in a mill churning out puppies for the public. But we were worried that they would think they might be able to get one more litter out of her with colors that would command high prices. She came from a mill that is known to not take care of his dogs and that was our hope the other mill owners wouldn’t want her due to the neglect they knew this buyer was known for.
We succeeded and she is coming to us and can now forever say good by to these long 9 years.

Sometimes rescue work sucks and today is one of those days. We were so happy to rescue this old girl from the auction, she spent 10 years living in a mill producing Cocker pups or Cocka poo pups for the public throughout the country.
We were lucky enough to stop that for her buy purchasing her and taking her to the sanctuary, we discovered with her exam that she was filled with breast masses, had cataracts in both eyes and would need many surgeries to try and correct all of what ailed her from years and years and years of being bred and neglected.
She had her first surgery which was a big one to remove one whole chain of her breasts filled with masses but she just didn’t want to recover from her surgery, we ended up hospitalizing her in the ER and it took a while to find out what the issue was and we learned today that she had a big mass hidden deep in her GI tract down near her pylorus that was making her very sick, it was not operable and we opted to not put her through anything further and helped Sweet Caroline over the bridge. It’s just not fair, it’s not how its supposed to be and she never did get an opportunity to live her life as a pet even though she was lucky enough to have a family that was already waiting to adopt her. We are so grateful to foster mom Amy who took her home and at least she had that experience of living in a home.
Sad, just very sad is what we all are.
Rest in peace sweet girl, you deserved much better than you were ever given…
UPDATE 6/30/2021
When you are finally freed from living your life in a puppy mill for 9 years making puppy merchandise for the public, then you have lots and lots of medical issues that have never been addressed. This is Sweet Caroline and she has a long road ahead of her with lots of surgeries. In preparation for all of that and the recovery time we know will be necessary we have moved Sweet Caroline to a foster home with Amy PK who will spoil her in a home during the long process.
