I’m going to close the night with an adoption, this one warmed my heart so much and I hope it does yours too. Sometimes people are very impatient with rescue dogs and the struggles that they are trying so very hard to get over, and then sometimes you get an adopter like this one.
Toofers didn’t receive many applications because she was a senior girl who could be a bit standoffish with men, at first she would bluff at Ricky who went to rescue her and then with staff at the sanctuary, this would of course make it harder to find her perfect home. She got so much better with staff but meetings. new person would send her right back to her well known scared behavior.
After some time, Wade and Michelle Goins, who already had three senior dogs, stepped in to meet the challenge. The initial meet-and-greet didn’t go as hoped—Toofers was nervous, skittish, and hid behind Emma, not wanting to greet them. We refer to this as a dog that “doesn’t show well”
Wade, however, was patient and asked if he could return the following week to try again. So he did. This time, Toofers was a little familiar with this man, she felt like he might be nice. Emma suggested that he might want to bring Toofers home for a trial run to see how she behaves in a more relaxed environment. So, the next week, Toofers went home with Wade and Michelle to McKinney, TX. In just two days, she had won their hearts and was officially part of their pack. Wade sent a sweet email letting us know that Toofers had found her forever home and wasn’t going anywhere else. It’s clear that the wait was worth it for this special girl, and we’re so happy she’s found such a loving family.
