Willow’s Happy Tail
Walnut was an absolute favorite at the Sanctuary—one of those dogs who unexpectedly won over every heart. We thought she might be at the Sanctuary for a bit, but a very special person reached out to us.
At the beginning of July, we received an email from Carl Teague, a previous adopter who gave loving homes to both Pappy from the Popeye group and Cabbage, now known as “Bandit.” Carl had recently lost his beloved pittie, Tyson, and the house just didn’t feel the same without him. While scrolling through our page, he saw Walnut and felt an instant connection.
Interestingly, Walnut wasn’t even one of our typical rescues—as you all know, we usually specialize in French Bulldogs and Dogue de Bordeauxs—but she came in alongside a couple of Frenchies. Even more surprising? She was one of the first dogs marked pending from that group. And with Carl, we couldn’t have asked for a better match.
Carl is the kind of adopter every rescue dreams of. When he adopted Pappy, it took about two years for Pappy to feel comfortable around people. But Carl’s patience never wavered, and now Pappy has blossomed into a confident, happy dog.
Now, Walnut has a new name—Willow. Carl chose it because Willow trees are strong, resilient, and thrive near water—just like she does. While she might not be big, she’s full of strength and absolutely loves the water. Carl even has a large (fenced-in) swimming pool and plans to get her a life jacket so she can test it out. He also has a doggie pool, which we know she’ll be splashing in regularly!
Willow joins an incredible pack with Pappy, Bandit, and a female Boston Terrier named Brie. We’re beyond thrilled knowing she’s going to live her best life surrounded by love, patience, and a whole lot of fun. Carl has promised to keep us updated, and we can’t wait to see all of Willow’s new adventures.
