The Perez family recently experienced heartbreaking loss when the love of their lives, Franny, suddenly passed away during BOAS surgery. When they were ready to open their hearts again, they reached out to rescue, knowing they could provide another dog with the same love and wonderful home they had given Franny.
Sometimes, though, the dog you think is the right fit isn’t the dog who ultimately steals your heart. Daniel and Shawna Perez came to the Sanctuary to meet one dog—but they left with a completely different one: Windsor!
What was supposed to be a “trial” visit to their home quickly became very clear after just a few text messages. Windsor wasn’t coming back to us! Daniel shared, “She allowed us to bathe her, clean her folds and put Coat Defense on her folds, then balm on her paw pads. She had a little spa day!”
We couldn’t be happier that Windsor, now Lucy, found her way into the Perez family. Daniel is retired military, and Shawna is at her final duty station, giving them the stability and time to provide Lucy with the wonderful forever home she deserves.
We are so thankful they chose Lucy, and we can’t wait to see all of their Happy Tails updates! We have a feeling Lucy is going to be one very spoiled girl—with plenty of love, cuddles, and spa days aplenty!
About Windsor:
Pupdate: She is a beautiful girl, young and great with other dogs and people. Windsor is like Mateo if you recall, liver numbers are not normal, we did an ultrasound and biopsies of her liver, with the process of elimination its felt that she most likely has microvascular dysplasia, she has no symptoms, and she may not have any symptoms for the rest of her life. There is nothing to be done about this or we would do it. Any adopter would need to know this going in and choose her regardless.

They just keep coming, Frenchies in shelters, just keep coming. Ricky picked up this girl and is having to drive her to Oklahoma, we just don’t have room and are always grateful when Dr Roach can help out and get the vetting started and isolate for any illness. All I know is she’s a female about 3 years old, I don’t know what is happening with her chin but we will get it figured out.
