Jean and Tony Buiniskis are the very lucky adopters of one cute little mini schnauzer! While he didn’t stay with me long, YouTube made a big impression. His soulful eyes are so kind and he is such a gentle soul. It was obvious that he wasn’t lacking in confidence immediately upon arriving at my home. Meeting my pack can be overwhelming but he took it all in stride and integrated perfectly. I could see that he had gone too long without the comfort of a home by the way he would remain standing until he fall asleep after I put him up on the couch or our bed. He had 24 teeth extracted during his dental cleaning due to 7 long years of neglect. The look of gratitude and appreciation in his eyes always brought me a little sadness because he deserved to have the world from day one and in his new home, with a new mama, daddy and Cavalier brother, Rory, this sweet little guy will have exactly that.
Jean is a village member and follows DRR on Facebook. After losing her other Cavalier, Sophie, a year ago, she decided that Rory needed a new brother or sister. See, when Sophie passed, Jean put the towel she wrapped her up in on that awful day in her dog bed when she got home and Rory laid on it for 6 weeks, only leaving to go potty and eat. It was clear that Rory was heartbroken after losing the sister he knew from the time he was just 6 months old until she left him 12 years later. Jean wanted another Cavalier however, she had an open mind and leaned in when YouTube was suggested.
I drove YouTube to their home and it was clear that he was home right away. This little 13 pound dog who planted himself and refused to budge any time I put a leash on him trotted proudly around his new yard with his new dad ON A LEASH! Little stinker. He met the neighbor dog, Whiskey, through the fence and explored every inch of the house. The most important test though was how he and Rory would get along and he passed with flying colors. About 5 minutes after our arrival, Jean confirmed that he wouldn’t be going back home with me.
YouTube will now be called Furgus, Gus for short, and will only know love and kindness for the rest of his life.
