This is going to be a long goodnight post and I write it straight from my heart. This family is very special and we love them very much. A little history on our journey with them.
The first dog they adopted was Marmalade, a difficult dog to place, a bird killer and could be an issue with some dogs. This family doesn’t bat an eye at a challenge. Their little girl Leikyn fought cancer as a baby, and the little boy Maddox had a feeding tube for a long time. Laura hesitated to consider them because their life seemed chaotic, once you meet them you realize very quickly they are undeterred by challenge.
They then adopted a big NEO named Justice that came out of a horrific hoarding breeder situation. Both of those girls passed away and along came this bear Boudreaux an owner surrender at 7 years old. This dog was the gem, of all gems, and Travis has always regretted letting him go. Boudreaux became known as Boo Boo and this gorgeous lovely dog and this little boy were inseparable, and the pictures she would post of them on happy tails would bring tears to your eyes.
He only lived a couple of years but clearly was sorely missed. Next we had big Marley girl a black masked Bullmastiff who lost her family with about a dozen children, and a husband in the service that was never home, and the mom was overwhelmed. The next adoption was a Bordeaux named Sully who is absolutely broken, a mill dog that could never socially recover, a nearly impossible placement, once again they didn’t bat an eye and took her in after she had been previously adopted and kept for a year before they returned her because she couldn’t be housebroken. Marley with all of her confidence and this family was perfect for her and she blossomed, and yes they got her housebroken.
They recently lost Marley as well. They applied for Gargon but he was already spoken for so when they inquired about Yowza for this little boy we jumped on it. This family will always have a very special place in my heart, true love for their pets, and a strong heart for committing to rescuing dogs no matter the challenge. Just so you have a little context on who these people are and why I love them
Today the Turchi family Ashley, Lee and their son Maddox came out to pick up their new family members.
What we were told is Maddox wanted Yowza very much, Leikyn wanted Jeepers the Dachshund pup. What they didn’t know is that they told Maddox that Yowza was not available, and only Jeepers was. He knew it would be a surprise for his sister and he was disappointed but he came to pick up little Jeepers while Leikyn was at work.
What Leikyn didn’t know is she was told Jeepers wasn’t available, and Yowza was and that’s who they were coming to pick up. He kept the secret for his sister and she kept the secret for him.
Little did they know that the adoption was for both Yowza and Jeepers and they would both be thrilled with the surprise.
We could not be happier for this family, and these dogs will know nothing but a life of love and happiness.
Happy life and good night everyone
We were asked if we could help with this baby boy but getting him was complicated. He is an 11 week old Bordeaux baby with reportedly a grade 2 heart murmur, he was in the hands of a broker, a broker is the middleman between the mills and the pet stores or any entity that mass sells puppies to the public online. He doesnt want him and needed to find a place for him.
The complication was he is in Omaha Nebraska, so we went to work networking with another rescue that was also at the auction, and also picks up discarded pups from this broker. She left the auction and drove up to Omaha to pick up her pups and this pup. We were lucky enough to have one of our volunteers Elizabeth Savetman volunteer to get on a plane and fly to Omaha this morning, where someone would meet her at the airport, hand over the pup and Elizabeth can fly back to Dallas and get this little guy to us.
It was an organized plan of action and thankfully we were able to pull it off. A huge thank you to Elizabeth who donated her miles and her time to secure him.
